The picture that says everything about the sorry state of NHS dentistry

The Telegraph, 5th February 2024

Hundreds of patients flocked to a new dental practice in Bristol on Monday morning in the hope of securing an NHS appointment.

Police were forced to intervene and send people home in the early afternoon because the surgery was unable to meet the demand.

Preet Gill, the shadow health minister, said: “These queues lays bare the state of dentistry after 14 years of the Conservatives. The consequences for patients are dire. Last year, there were more than 1,000 dental emergencies in Bristol alone.

“Labour will provide 700,000 urgent appointments, recruit new dentists to the areas most in need and introduce a targeted national tooth-brushing scheme for three to five-year-olds, paid for by abolishing the non-dom tax status.”
