30 October 2023: Preet writes to the Foreign Secretary about the Israel-Hamas war

In October, as war raged between Israel and Hamas, Preet wrote to the UK Foreign Secretary.

In her letter, Preet was clear: the actions of Hamas on October 7 were deplorable acts of terrorism that resulted in the bloodiest day in Israel’s history, and affirmed Israel's right to defend itself and to bring its hostages home.

However, Preet also addressed the fact that scores of civilians and health workers had been killed in Gaza and she called on all actors to take every measure to protect innocent civilian lives and that all actors must adhere to international humanitarian law.

Preet continues to call on all actors in this conflict to adhere to international law and international humanitarian law, for the settler violence to immediately end in the West Bank, for civilian life to be protected, and for a sustainable ceasefire to create the space for the return of all the hostages still held by Hamas, and to provide urgent humanitarian relief to protect against disease and ward off a devastating famine in Gaza.

Longer-term, Preet wants the international community to secure a viable, peaceful two-state solution.
