26 January 2023: Preet Kaur Gill MP writes to the Transport Secretary about bus funding in the West Midlands

Following a constructive meeting with David Bradford, Managing Director at National Express West Midlands, in December 2022 discussing the level of service provided by National Express in our region, Preet wrote to Transport Secretary Mark Harper MP.

In her letter, Preet explained she has been campaigning for several months to improve the bus service for constituents because too often buses are running late or not turning up at all. Preet was also clear that a reliable transport network is critical to people's lives.

During Preet and David's meeting, it became clear that without greater support from central government, National Express would be forced to make reductions of between 10 - 20 percent.

Preet therefore asked the Transport Secretary what progress had been made on the Bus Service Support Fund.

See Preet's letter, and the response Preet received, below.

Preet is aware improvements still remain to be made and she continues to work closely with bus operators, the Council, and others because people must be able to rely on public transport as a means of getting from A to B.

Constituents who wish to raise complaints about their experiences are encouraged to contact Preet on preet.gill.mp@parliament.uk or to contact her via telephone on 0121 392 8426.
