19 December 2023: Preet writes to the FCDO about the Freedom Theatre and Israeli operations in the Occupied West Bank

On 13 December, Ahmed Tobasi, Artistic Director of Jenin’s Freedom Theatre, was arrested by the Israeli army, along with his brother Mohammed. Mustafa Sheta, the Theatre’s Producer, and Jamal Abu Joas, a trainer at the Theatre were also arrested.

In total, reports say some 100 Palestinians were arrested and detained during the raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the Occupied West Bank.

Preet wrote to the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs to ask whether he has had any conversations with his Israeli counterpart, or with the Israeli Government, about the arrest and detention of the Freedom Theatre staff.

Preet also asked what conversations the UK Government are having with Israel about its wider operations within the Occupied West Bank
