10 November 2023: Preet writes to the Chancellor about Local Housing Allowance (LHA) rates

Ahead of the Autumn Statement, many constituents contacted Preet expressing their concerns about the future of LHA rates.

According to data released by Birmingham City Council in September 2023, the Council has over 4,700 households living in Temporary Accommodation (TA) and there were 1,600 homeless presentations in the first three months of 2023 alone. Meanwhile, along with cities like London and Manchester, Birmingham has a higher concentration of households with children living in temporary accommodation than the rest of the country.

Therefore, ahead of the Autumn Statement, Preet wrote to the Chancellor urging him to give due consideration to reviewing LHA rates to avoid thousands more households being plunged into homelessness.
